This is about my cycling trip, with 3 wonderful rider friends, from Mandwa to Nandgaon in the coastal region of Maharashtra.

Instead of writing a detailed blog , here’s short text which i sent to my fellow cycling mates.

“guys for me, this cycling trip with you all , was one of the most loveliest memories ever…

a guy whom i was meeting first time in my life, eats missal and gets acidity in the beginning of the trip.

a guy who’s cycle was dangling right from beginning of the trip

a small girl who’s pannier bags were bigger than her cycle…

But yes we were all singing the same song, we were all seeking the same from this trip.. happiness from the unknown.

We all have problems, but to overcome them is not by chance … we have to make efforts
and this effort i could see in this little group of ours , we wanted to be happy..each one of us.

I am glad i was with u guys and could do cycling with u guys, I am most lucky.

It really doesn’t matter if u do not have the best cycle in the world or the best riding gear, it doesn’t matter if u do not not  have the best high paying job in the world, lest not forget , finally we all have to pedal to move ahead.

coastal cycling in Maharashtra
The smiling pack

I loved the mistakes in all of u, I loved the simplicity with which u all were riding, I loved the not giving up spirit in u all,  I loved the way we stuck together and rode together in a pack, we didn’t have to drink or smoke to rejoice, we were happy in what nature laid in front of us…

all these small moments made this trip special and unique.

I could see the youth of mine in u all.

The carelessness, the aggressiveness, the strength to push oneself, the not-sleeping and having-fun attitude ,  eating whatever feels to , getting up late and still  not worrying about anything in this world, not caring about what the other person is , just rejoicing every moment, loving nature , eyes were shutting but still desperately staying awake  to not miss the wonderful moments, no strict agenda to follow, not cribbing about the food , toilets or the campsite , making mistakes and correcting very fast, not cribbing about each other, not worrying about the time or anything, mindlessly enjoying every moment, living in a free world..

LAFL encourages children of all ages to get in touch with their natural surroundings! With activities that foster a love of the outdoors and environmental sciences that can be initiated indoors and out. Society often overlooks the value of wilderness training and survival skills. We live among urban sprawls and in suburban epicenters – but there is still plenty of raw, untamed natural world left to explore.

Knowing a few basics of wilderness prep and survival is a good idea no matter where you live or what activities you participate in. And there’s no better time to acquire these skills than when you are young. By teaching children the basics, we are instilling life-long knowledge that could one day save their lives or the lives of others. Some of the most important “survival” techniques would be introduced to kids and presented in such a way that it’s not intimidating, but rather engaging and fun.

“Getting children interested in the outdoors and survival skills has been one of the major goals of my career and there is a lot of evidence that outdoor activities are enormously beneficial to the young.” – Prateek Deo , CEO LAFL

WILDERNESS SURVIVAL SKILLS OBJECTIVE

The objective of this children’s adventure camp is to connect children with nature in a fun-sharing environment. This is nature awareness adventure camp for kids that will cover the basic Wilderness survival skills. It will be structured for fun learning, with plenty of games, and creativity.

Our brief list of some of the activities your child will engage in:
 Ancestral Technologies such as:
 Learn Wilderness safety and knowledge of hazards
 Learn how to make a fire from sticks and friction and 1 match
fires
 Create your own survival camp fire making kit
 Wild craft a bag for your wilderness kit
 Wild crafting with medicinal plants and trees for healing salves,
tinctures, sprays, ointments and pastes
 Learn how to cook over the survival style cooking fire
 Experiential wilderness awareness games
 Hill exploration and discovery
 Experience unique nature immersion and survival skills
through play, discovery, investigation and exploration.

SURVIVAL SKILLS OUTLINE

There are 5 basic survival skills that your child would learn …
1) Mindset
If you are caught in a situation where you actually need your survival
skills, the most important of all will be your attitude.

2) Water gathering
Focus on water. Find it, purify it, drink it, and store it for later.

3) Shelter creating
If you believe that you will have to overnight before being rescued the
next order of business is to get a shelter built.

4) Fire making
Fire is an important skill because losing body heat can kill you just as
quickly as lack of water.

5) Food
Keeping your energy up is important, you will be burning a lot more
calories than you are used to burning.

WHAT WE DO- WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT ?

In a time of earth’s fragile ecology, LAFL, help children connect with wonder and amazement to the natural world, growing their innate curiosity and passion for the earth and its flora and fauna. We do this through mentoring, guided creative exploration and hands-on discovery.

Why is this important?
We believe it is through having magical experiential nature mentors that students will be inspired to have both hope and solutions in an era of climate change and global environmental uncertainty.
We believe students, who are taught to fall in love with science through child-led nature mentoring, will be the ones who will be the pioneers of zero-impact, cradle to cradle manufacturing, and create bio mimicry designs to complex human challenges for a healthy planet. They will be the ones who inspire their own families and people in their communities, for seven generations and beyond.

HOW WE TEACH ?

We focus on child-directed experiential learning, acute observation
and inquiry, whereby students are “learning by doing”.
 Small groups
 Hands-on projects
 Guided exploration and Inquiry based learning
 Experienced educators & naturalists & artists
 Stories and games
 Student centered activities
 Acute observation and inquiry skills

‘Father and Daughter, Husband and Wife and A Flock of Good Friends with Life Away From Life’

Indeed! You experience a different life away from your casual life when you move out to one of the most beautiful treks in the world.

It’s true that the season for adventure is all the year round, but monsoon treks in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra is the most unique activity and unbeatable experience in the world full of adventure.

Trek to the smallest hill station located on the mighty Western Ghats, Matheran is the Live heaven on earth, where vehicles do not run and everybody only walks.

This lovely two hours trek to Matheran begins from Dodhani, a small village which still believes in green paddy fields. The trek takes you through the simple lifestyle of the hill people of Maharashtra and then through different surprises of nature.

A small hut under a tree and besides green paddy fields, cattle grazing in open slopes of the mountain, waterfalls gushing down in excitement, noisy winds yet peaceful, mesmerising forest trails, rain showers and above all the panoramic views of the mountains from the sunset point of Matheran are the unique experiences this trek offers.

Treks do not ask people, what is your age, where do you come from, which language you speak or what is your motto in life; Anyone with zeal to connect with nature, to observe everything around and to learn and grow in a natural environment can trek anytime in their lifespan. Treks give you more than you expect from them.

matheran trek

Father and daughter, husband and wife and a flock of good friends joined us for Matheran trek yesterday. These wonderful people made the trek easy and more interesting. We understand the world even more better after meeting different people in a natural sphere.

You know what best one day trek did ?
It bound us all together in unity yet giving us freedom to be one self at the same time.

This is the beauty of one day treks in Maharashtra.
